OUR STORY

“It’s a full circle moment. I try to be the therapist I needed as a child.”

My family and I spun our wheels a bit, trying to understand why I was spiraling emotionally and acting out of frustration and anger as a child.

Eventually, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I worked with a few therapists growing up who helped me manage my condition, but I didn't always feel seen by them. Also, my parents didn’t have the right kind of support to guide them about adjusting their parenting styles according to what I needed. They told me to "snap out of it" and "stop doing that," which were not at all helpful.

Feeling understood and validated can be powerful when navigating tricky seasons in your life.

When my son was five weeks old, he went through a profoundly scary medical crisis. At the same time, I was also battling postpartum depression.

But the ER staff didn’t take us seriously.

My mom-gut told me to seek solutions elsewhere - and that’s what we did. We went to a different hospital, and my son was diagnosed with a rare congenital birth defect. We could’ve lost him if this were left untreated.

Apart from the life-saving treatment they provided, they taught us to calm down and listen to our instincts. They asked for our feedback throughout the process.

And that felt so affirming.

Fast forward a few years, my husband and I found that our son had a range of other medical issues, many of which affected his behavior. We were in the thick of it, and it was hard to see our way out of it. The inconsolable meltdowns just wouldn’t respond to anything.

He would hit and scream for so long that I could feel myself shutting down. I knew in my heart that this wasn’t just “bad behavior.” I knew he was trying to tell me something, but I couldn’t figure out what. Words cannot explain how hard it was.

We developed a method of considering variables, the things in his life that affected his behavior.

That’s when things started to make sense.

“We assume a child is acting out because they just want things to go their way. But that’s not the whole story. Not even close.”

I’ve experienced so much of that judgment as a mom to a special-needs kid. My private practice clients also tell me the same thing.

The explosions. Aggression. Not listening. Stubbornness. Anger. Attitude. They all point to underlying issues kids experience but struggle to express.

Issues that can be related to physical pain, emotional needs, learning difficulties, and beyond. Or even a combination of these.

We owe it to our children to get to the bottom of it to create a loving, peaceful oasis where they can thrive.

We believe that

  • Parenting doesn’t have to be a 24/7 power struggle — your relationship with your child can be rewarding and joyful again.

  • All behavior is communication. We just have to figure out what your child is trying to tell you.

  • You know your children better than anyone — we’re simply here to give you the tools and resources so you can confidently handle everything the #parentlife throws at you.

  • More parents should listen to their gut - even when specialists downplay a symptom or behavior.

  • A “no stones unturned” approach can make a world of difference - we teach you how to explore every possibility in your child’s immediate environment (medical, emotional, sensory, academic, etc.).

  • Curiosity and care create real and lasting change — way more than misaligned discipline and judgment.

  • When we help parents model better coping behaviors, children heal too.

Ready to decode your child’s behavior and transform it with radical empathy?
